French

“With languages, you are at home anywhere.” Edward de Waal

At Hailey School, our aim, in the early years of learning a foreign language is to generate enthusiasm, enjoyment and to encourage children to participate and persevere. Through conversational work, role play, singing and games, children are supported to develop their speaking and listening skills. As confidence grows, pupils record their work through pictures and sentences. We believe that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils as well as giving children a new perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.

Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.
