Ofsted Inspection Report – November 2019

We are very pleased to share with you the summary report from our latest Ofsted Inspection which took place in October 2019. We are proud to say that our school was judged good under the new Ofsted framework, which was updated in September 2019, and which has a different, more challenging set of priorities. Six weeks into term, to get this level of judgement against these exacting new criteria, was an excellent achievement.

The report strongly endorsed Hailey School’s focus on academic progress and personal development, applauding leaders’ ambition ‘for all pupils to achieve as much as possible’. Inspectors commented that the school is ‘rightly proud of pupils’ consistently secure achievements in reading, writing and maths by the time they leave school which prepares them well for their next stage of education.’

Inspectors also commented on pupils’ learning attitudes and good behaviour in class. ‘They develop secure skills as responsible citizens because of the focus on their behaviour and attitudes.’ They praised the school’s pastoral care and safeguarding procedures, echoing feedback in our school surveys: ‘Pupils like their school. They feel happy and safe,’ commenting on the pupils' ‘good-humoured interactions with staff’ which underpin ‘relaxed but respectful relationships throughout the school’. This is testament to the care and commitment of our staff.

The report also commented on the schools’ strengths in literacy and maths, and we are pleased to see that inspectors identified the benefits of our focus on reading: ‘establishing early reading skills and a love of books has been carefully developed to weave through and link to learning themes.’
