Debbie Davies

I read psychology at university, specialising in developmental psychology. I then undertook teacher training and came to Hailey School as a student teacher. I enjoyed the experience so much that I knew I wanted to return. I’ve worked in schools for over twenty years in a mixture of village, town, community and Church schools. It is a pleasure and a privilege to now be Head Teacher at Hailey School and my intention is that we achieve the best outcomes for pupils, staff, parents and community.

Originally brought up in Hertfordshire, I started working for Marconi and Bookham Technology in various roles, from Quality Assurance to Product Development, which allowed me to follow my passion for cutting edge engineering. I moved to Oxfordshire in 2002, and moved to Witney with my wife, where we have lived for the last 12 years. I am currently Operations Manager for a large Utility company. My eldest child enjoys attending Hailey Primary School.

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2017 with a degree in Law. I went on to work as a paralegal and undertake the Legal Practice Course and Masters in Law from which I graduated in 2019. I completed my training and qualified as a lawyer in September 2019. I am an advocate for social mobility and my interest in education stems from this. I am currently a proud member of the Education team at Browne Jacobson, advising schools, academies, multi-academy trusts and local authorities on a wide range of legal and governance issues they may face.

I have been a primary school teacher for 8 years and am currently working as a SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) at a school in Witney. I have spent most of my teaching career in Key Stage 1 and have always had a keen interest in inclusion. My daughter has recently started at Hailey Primary School and I look forward to working with the staff, governors and families in my role as parent governor.

I graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2021 with a degree in Law, and shortly after undertook the Legal Practice Course and master’s in law in 2022. I have been completing my training to become a qualified lawyer within the last two years and will be qualified in March 2024. I am currently in my last seat rotation with the education team at Browne Jacobson LLP who I have worked with twice now. I come from an educational background and therefore I was delighted to spend so much of my time training to become a solicitor within the education team, learning about advising schools, academies, multi-academy trusts and local authorities on a wide range of legal and governance issues such as exclusions, admissions and complaints. I have a passion for making a difference and going the extra mile to make change!

I have a wide and varied experience of primary education, spanning more than 30 years. My various roles have included- teaching assistant, teacher, deputy head teacher, headteacher, parent and now grandparent; my eldest granddaughter is a pupil at Hailey School.
I am now semi-retired, but take on short- term leadership posts in schools that need some additional support.
Having some free time at last, I am very pleased to be able to work with Debbie and the Hailey team and look forward to being part of the school's continued success.
